Consciousness and the phenomenology of psychosis

Supervisor

Daniel Stoljar
Victoria McGeer
Colin Klein
Michelle Banfield

Research Questions

(1) How does consciousness differ during psychosis to that of the normal waking state?

(2) Do these differences mean that psychosis is a distinct mode of consciousness?

(3) Do the dimensions of consciousness during psychosis predict or explain the experiences people have when psychotic?

Whose research influences you?

Tim Bayne

Are you a lived-experience researcher?

Yes

If so, how does lived or consumer experience shape your research?

1) Motivates me to understand my experience of psychosis and other peoples experiences of psychosis.
2) Motivates me to seek alternative ways of understanding mental illness (beyond the biomedical model) and to hope that new understanding lead to better treatment options.
