Thesis Title

Antidepressant deprescribing: An investigation of what, who, how and why it works for primary care patients.

Supervisor

Prof Jane Gunn and Dr Cath Kaylor-Hughes

Research Questions

RQ 1: What deprescribing activities currently exist for GPs and patients to use in primary care?
RQ 2: What reasons do primary care patients have for reducing or stopping their antidepressant medications and can they inform deprescribing activities for use in clinical practice?
RQ 3: What are the mechanisms and contexts that support antidepressant users to successfully deprescribe?

Whose research influences you?

Prof Jane Gunn, Dr Cath Kaylor-Hughes, Prof Victoria Palmer, Prof Tony Kendrick and my PhD peers.

Are you a lived-experience researcher?

Yes.

If so, how does lived or consumer experience shape your research?

It makes me a more compassionate and empathetic researcher which is particularly evident in conducting qualitative interviewing, the design of a study and the interpretation of results. It also guides my research interests in the mental health treatment space.
